In the paddy fields surrounding the city of Kolkata is a small workshop dedicated to the art of kantha stitching. Run by a Fair Trade cooperative, the women who work here are able to practice traditional techniques and support their families. Above the workshop is a small school, where local girls are taught the techniques of stitching and tailoring. TOAST has been working with Sasha for over ten years to create garments, homewares and accessories.

Cotton which is kantha-stitched by hand, with an internal layer of wadding made from vintage saris. Contrasting red herringbone tape tie and a hand-dyed and handwoven ikat lining. Internal pocket intended for pinning needles through, storing threads or placing a small pair of embroidery scissors. Being handmade, no two are the same.
