Poppy Fuller Abbott Dip Dye Wall Hanging

Size: One Size

Brighton-based weaver Poppy Fuller Abbott creates textile works using natural yarns and dyes, often from plants grown on her mother's allotment.

To create this ikat wall hanging, she dyes the hemp yarn warp and weft with cutch, then dip-dyes the warp with natural indigo, before weaving the fabric by hand on an 8 shaft Harris loom. The dipped, coloured ends of the thread highlight the weave structure, while negative space is explored by the undyed sections. To finish, the edges are stitched and a wooden dowel added for hanging.

Being handmade, each varies in colour, pattern and form.

Poppy Fuller Abbott

Brighton-based weaver and dyer Poppy Fuller Abbott has a desk piled high with cones of yarn and stacks of fabric. “It can get a little bit chaotic when I'm in the midst of something, but when I'm deeply focused on my work, I don't seem to notice,” she says. “I see it as a beautiful mess; I'm always taking pictures of yarn tangles I’ve swept onto the floor!”
