The ikat fabric making up our skirt is patterned with graphic flowers for a modern take on an ancient technique. Cinched in by crosshatch ikat drawstrings at the elasticated waist, coordinating with the binding at the side pockets and side seam.
The weavers work under master artisan Bikshapati Kolaan in the village of Yellanki in Andhra Pradesh. He has been weaving for over 40 years, following the path of his father. The cotton yarns are carefully bound and dyed to create the pattern, then handwoven to create a soft fabric.
Organic cotton ikat. Hand-dyed. Handwoven. Elasticated waist. Crosshatch ikat drawstrings and pocket bindings. Side pockets. Mid-calf length.
Machine wash 30ºC. 100% cotton.
Made in India.
This fabric is handloom woven. Weaving irregularities are a pleasing characteristic of handloom woven items and should not be considered a fault. An age-old and complex technique of patterning cloth, whereby the pattern is pre-determined by tie-dyeing the yarn prior to weaving. The characteristic haziness of the pattern that emerges is a pleasing result of this hand process.
