As we gain an hour of light, April is a month to enjoy the quickening energy of spring. We have selected five illuminating events to enjoy, from a group show celebrating organic materials, to a seasonal supper club in Buckinghamshire.
Arpita Singh: Remembering at Serpentine Galleries
Remembering is the first solo exhibition of Arpita Singh’s work outside of her native India. With a career spanning six decades, Singh’s paintings draw from Bengali folk art and Indian stories, interwoven with experiences of social upheaval and global conflict. The exhibition at the Serpentine Galleries showcases Singh’s large-scale oil paintings, intimate watercolours, and ink drawings.
Arpita Singh: Remembering is on at The Serpentine until 27 July 2025.
Wild Feasts at Oxmoor Farm
A celebration of local produce and rising culinary talent, Wild Feasts is a seasonal supper club set in the heart of Buckinghamshire. Hosted at Oxmoor Farm, this series transforms the rural landscape into an open-air dining experience, where the next generation of chefs take center stage.
Each feast is a showcase of creativity and sustainability, with menus built entirely around ingredients sourced from the region. From May to December, a rotating lineup of chefs will present their own take on farm-to-table dining, crafting dishes that highlight the richness of the local land.
Eve Seeman is cooking at Wild Feast at Oxmoor Farm from 19-20 April 2025.
Anselm Kiefer: Early Works at the Ashmolean
Best known for his monumental use of scale, Anselm Kiefer is synonymous with post-war art. Multi-layered and poignant, he is one of the world’s most highly-regarded living artists. This exhibition features paintings, watercolours, artist books, photographs and woodcuts, all rarely displayed in the UK. Covering Kiefer’s early period from 1969-82, the exhibition explores the cultural, literary and philosophical foundations which informed his worldview.
Anselm Kiefer: Early Works is on at the Ashmolean until 15 Jun 2025.
Medium Rare at Berntson Bhattacharjee
This group show is a textural exploration into the depth of organic materials used in contemporary making. Featuring new works from six emerging artists, the works are united by a deep commitment to material. The show explores themes of tradition, craft and timeless processes, moving between painting and sculpture.
Medium Rare is on at Berntson Bhattacharjee until 12 April 2025.
Everlyn Nicodemus at National Galleries of Scotland: Modern
This exhibition is the first ever retrospective of artworks by Edinburgh-based Everlyn Nicodemus. Born in Tanzania, Nicodemus is an artist, writer and curator who pursues creativity as a form of healing. In her artworks, joy vocalises a response to female oppression, and the artist’s experience of racism. Her work is deeply rooted in identity, faith, and the question of belonging. She uses abstract patterns, materials and found objects from around the home.
Everlyn Nicodemus is on at National Galleries of Scotland: Modern until 26 May 2025.
